Head Instructor – Stephen “Hondo” Roberts

Coach Hondo has been immersed in the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 1997, training, teaching, and competing with dedication and passion. His martial arts journey also includes several years of Aikido and Muay Thai. He began his Jiu-Jitsu path at the renowned Ralph Gracie Academy in San Francisco. Throughout his career, his took advantage of his relocation to Japan for medical school which allowed him to train with several world famous instructors of several styles of Martial Arts.

On January 1, 2020, after 28 years of practicing emergency medicine, Coach Hondo retired to fully dedicate himself to his true passion—Jiu-Jitsu. Now, more than ever, he can be found at the academy, teaching and training. The academy is Coach Hondo’s happy place, where he believes that everyone who does Jiu-Jitsu Gi becomes a better person, both inside and out.

He lives by the saying ” Every Second you spend here you will find a better version of yourself”

Coach Lee – Jiu-Jitsu USA

Lee was one of the first to step through the doors when Jiu-Jitsu USA opened, and he has been on the mat ever since. With a diverse global martial arts background, he emphasizes the fundamentals to help students reach their fullest potential. Coach Lee is known for his meticulous attention to detail, making him the most technical instructor at Jiu-Jitsu USA

Coach Kegan – Jiu-Jitsu USA

Kegan began his Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2020 and has been dedicated to the mat ever since. Drawn to the competitive side of the sport, he quickly became a member of the Jiu-Jitsu USA Competitive Team. A retired police officer, Kegan is also a devoted father of two boys. When he’s not training, he keeps busy as a Basic Life Support instructor, teaching BLS, CPR, and AED certifications. In 2022, Kegan earned his Blue Belt, a testament to his commitment and passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Coach Krystal Hall

Krystal joined Jiu-jutsu USA in april 2022 after moving back to Massachusetts. Since the age of 18, Krystal trained in some style of martial arts during her traveling while acquiring her doctorate in veterinary medicine. During the time she settled down in Oregon, she extensively studied and received her 1st degree black belt under Kiyoshi Dave Pitchett and Grandmaster Jerry Piddington in AKANA (karate). Krystal was introduced to Grandmaster Jose Bueno through pitchett. She continued her training and received her 1st Black belt under GM bueno’s system (PSMA – a mixed martial arts system involving japanese (danza ryu) jiu-jutsu, modern arnis (direct student of remy presas), sambo). Krystal is a wonderful addition to Jiu-Jitsu USA and our and competition Team. She leads our women’s self defense classes.
